This summer transfer season 2015 might as well be remembered most as the time Iker Casillas left his boyhood club, his beloved place, the club where he built his career from the ground up and ascended until where he is today, Real Madrid. He is now joining Porto for two-years contract.
Most (or all, and that included Barca fans) non-Madridista will point out at the sole conference press held by Casillas in the room with slumbers blatantly fell from his eyes when he delivered his goodbye speech.
And at this point I really understand why many will hate Madrid and Perez for the very minimum appreciation of Casillas contribution to the Spain capital city’s club.
As the bloody Galacticos principle established by the one and only Florentino Poorez, everyone who is not able to meet the ‘standard’ of playing in the club must be kicked out (del Bosque, Morata, Raul, Ancelotti, to name a few). However I had posted many fierce comments on social media about the treatment of Casillas in his last days with Madrid, so one paragraph is enough here..
Drama aside, Iker Casillas is one of my greatest here. Less a Madridista, I am more of a big fan of La Furia Roja, Spanish National Team since 1994. Andoni Zubizaretta is the long-term goalkeeper in the national team as I remember since World Cup in USA. However, 2002 is where I fell in love with Casillas. The heroic performance agains Ireland in the Round of Sixteen suddenly wake up the whole world about one of the greatest goalkeeper. And the rest his history, the achievements he stressed with Madrid and Spain are his true testaments, one is shown in the picture below. Gracias Casillas for everything, I will of course follow you with Porto…hopefully you will return to your best because I believe no one there will boo you.. 🙂
