Javier Zanetti Retires : “Thank you Captain”

The Inter Milan Captain, one of the most loyalist football player in the modern football, Javier Zanetti, handed his resignation from football business after a long-sparkling 19 years of career in Inter Milan with total of 862 appearances. As it stands, he is now 40-years old.

The Argentinian had the home game against Lazio (which was won by Inter 4-1 to cement their way for Europe League competition next season ) as his swan song. Although it is well known will be his last prior to the game, Inter coach decided not to put the right-back player on the starting line up. Instead he was coming as substitute late on the 2nd half to a rapturous applause from all over stadium.

After the game ended, in the front of tens of thousands Nerrazuri fans filling up Giuseppe Meazza, the most respected no.4 Inter player gave a farewell speech, and subsequently honored by all Inter players, staffs, and the entire Interisti on the stadium.

FC Internazionale were quick to reveal that that was not going to be his last stand in Inter Milan as the club are preparing to accommodate Javier Zanetti to become part of Inter Milan department, which wasn’t decided yet. No formal agreement has been made but it is expected Javier Zanetti will continue contributing to Inter Milan but off the pitch. For his honor, the Milan-based club are also planning to retire no.4 jersey which was used by Javier Zanetti.

It is difficult to find a very loyal player for a club in modern football these days, especially if the player isn’t a native of the club’s hometown or country (Javier Zanetti is an Argentinian while Inter Milan are an Italian club). I still remember how he was highly coming to salute Indonesian Interisti fans in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta in 2012, while Inter Milan did a visit for friendly match in Indonesia just before the Euro 2012 begun. After that game, while others were walking out to dressing room, he solely ran to the tribune’s circle to greet and salute our fans. A spectacular attitude from one of the most respected football player in Seria-A.
